Top 5 Interior Design TV Shows You Must Watch on Netflix

With all this time spent at home, many of us feel like we have nothing good left on TV to watch. We are here to tell you about a few gems that you may not have discovered yet on Netflix. This list is especially useful if you are about to embark on your home interior journey.

Do you love to see home clutter miraculously transformed into order? Watch amateur designers rack their brains to execute challenging interiors on a budget? Take a peek into jaw-dropping homes from across the world? Well, you’re not alone. There’s always an audience for dream creators, and we’ve put together a list of the top 5 Netflix Interior Design TV shows that you must watch!

Disclaimer: This list is completely unofficial, but we hope it gives you some serious design inspiration and agrees with our choices.

The criteria we have used to make our choices are, essentially, whether the show makes for interesting viewing, whether the audience can get some doable takeaways from the show, and last but most important: does the show allow you to dream? In no particular order, here are our top five picks on interior design TV shows on Netflix. Happy viewing!

1. Tidying Up with Marie Kondo

Gentle and petite Marie Kondo is the woman the world loves to emulate when putting their homes in order. Right from guiding you on what you should keep and what you should throw, how you should put your undies in order, to telling you about sparking joy in your life; this woman has the power to transform your home. Each episode gives you a peek into the lifestyle of a different family who could do with some serious help in changing the way they live. Watch as she helps them to do just that.

2. The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes

This one is for the dreamers. Architects wave their magic wands, creating sensational buildings on impossibly steep cliffs in France, golden beachfront in Bali and suburban jungles in India. Each episode showcases four extraordinary homes from across the world, handpicked and curated by the hosts of the show, Piers Taylor (architect) and Caroline Quentin (a comedian). The show weaves in delightful insights from the architects of these homes, allowing you to understand how they conceptualize and ideate these magical spaces.

3. The Great Interior Design Challenge

Amateur interior designers are pitted against each other in a competition to win a real-life design contract. It’s a friendly race, though, as the show encourages collaboration between the contestants who help each other at times. It’s fun to watch the hosts, Judges Sophie Robinson and Daniel Hopwood, mentor and encourage the designers. The show has an eye on sustainability, too. In every episode, the designers are required to upcycle an object which must be a part of the finished interior.

4. Grand Designs

Grand Designs, which has run for a whopping 19 seasons in Britain, has over 100 episodes that feature home-build or renovation projects from start to finish. If a home is under construction, it will be revisited in a later episode. Projects ranging from underground homes and caravan makeovers, a low-cost sustainable cabin to a retirement home in the shape of a seashell, have been featured over the years.

5. Instant Hotel

Coming from Australia, Instant Hotel is a reality show where homeowners creatively turn their homes into (as the title explains) instant hotels! A design show with a personality, Instant Hotel is for those who have always thought Airbnb was the idea of the century. English interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is the new host who has been roped in to present these creative and challenging makeovers. An interesting aspect is that contestants judge each other to find out who wins the ultimate prize.
